“Our practice strongly believes we look after patients, who all become part of our family here. Individual care that is specifically designed for each person and not just protocol medicine applied to all. We are committed to helping people with all that life throws at them. Family medicine for us is a long-term relationship with real people. We strive to walk with you through our journey in life. Medicine is always changing but the relationship is the key to better health, not just for when you are sick but also to optimize your health. Being independent makes us more loyal to our patients rather than a boss. We are passionate that every person should have their family physician, working together to get the best care that medicine has to offer.”

Personal Interests

Dr. Macleod is without a doubt, a geek at heart. He thoroughly enjoys anything within the realm of science fiction and he is passionate about all things Star Trek. He also has a deep love and appreciation for aviation. In his spare time, with what little spare time he may have, he enjoys attending various “comic-cons” and airshows where he can likely be seen taking an obscene number of photos.

Dr. Macleod is also very proud of his Scottish family heritage. Because of this, Celtic activities and traditions are also important to him. He even got married in a kilt! However, at the core of everything that makes Dr. Macleod who he as an individual and as a provider is his family. Family is very important to him, which is why it is not uncommon to catch a glimpse of one of his grandchildren as you check in for your appointment. Pictures of his family and his staff, in addition to all that he holds dear are readily evident on the walls of Highlander Family Medicine.

Biography

Dr. Macleod at his core is a Family Physician. He trained at the University of Toronto, is Canadian Board Certified and earned the Fellowship award. For half of his career, he practiced medicine in Ontario, Canada before eventually residing and building his practice in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, which he now calls home.

The majority of his time spent in Virginia has been dedicated to small town medicine in a solo, independent practice. He has partaken in almost every aspect of medicine that a family physician can experience within his career. This includes but is not limited to hospital work (labor and delivery, emergency room, inpatient care, etc.), coroner, community activation activities, statewide health promotion projects, political medical functions and administrative functions (such as Chief of Staff). Ultimately, all of these experiences have helped him become a better, more well-rounded and experienced family doctor. Today, he currently practices solely from his office located in Woodstock, VA.
